Message from the Executive Director
In recent years, extreme weather events such as heavy rain, droughts, heat and cold waves have been increasing in frequency, leading to massive damages. Under these circumstances, it is becoming more and more crucial to produce and effectively utilize high-quality climate prediction information.
The APEC Climate Center (APCC) produces and offers high-quality climate prediction information and plays a pivotal role in the exchange of climate information among the APEC member economies. APCC also helps provide information to anticipate abnormal climate events. In order to generate high quality climate predictions despite the considerable uncertainty in the field, APCC shares data with seventeen world-renowned climate institutions and cooperates with a great number of sector-specific institutions.
APCC has a goal to improve and become a world-renowned climate institution specializing in the Asia-Pacific region. In order to achieve this goal, we will develop climate prediction technology and improve the quality of our climate forecasts by effectively sharing climate data with other institutions.
In addition, APCC will create a thriving environment that can fully utilize its climate prediction data and world-class human resources. APCC will make efforts to support relevant national institutions such as the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) to utilize our climate prediction data, while also contributing to the well-being of the Asia-Pacific region.
